Meg, Tuggeranong
โIt’s always easier to do something as a team.โ
Meg has lived in Canberra for a decade. After moving here with her husband, they have raised three young kids together. At the start of 2025 she and her husband teamed up to cut out alcohol.
The original plan was three months without alcohol, but things progressed from there to the point where sheโs not sure if theyโll drink again in the future.

โI decided to keep going beyond that first three months out of a sense of accomplishment,โ
โThat sense of achievement where Iโve done this thing for three months and it’s definitely become a habit. It’s become part of your life.โ
Meg has challenging days, but making this change with her husband made it feel a bit easier. Theyโve celebrated wins together and have kept cheering each other on throughout.
โIt is so much easier to do something with even just one person on your side and one person who is experiencing the same things as you. You can talk through tricky days and talk through challenges,โ
โYou can also celebrate the wins, and you should celebrate, it’s a big deal. Being able to have someone alongside you where you can high five each other is really important.โ
Meg has noticed the benefits in lots of ways.
โSince I’ve stopped drinking alcohol, my life has changed only for the better. I’m a healthier person, I know that I take better care of myself physically. I take better care of myself mentally.โ
